Sonia is an accomplished dancer, teacher, choreographer and adjudicator who strives to motivate, inspire, and nurture her dancers by cultivating artistry and refined knowledge of dance technique. Her passion for dance led her to train in ballet, jazz, lyrical, pointe, hip hop, tap, musical theatre, modern, and contemporary throughout her dancing career. Sonia is a graduate of York University, holding a B.F.A. (Honours Specialized Dance) and a B.Ed. Upon graduating from the 3-year Teacher Training School, she became a certified ADAPT teacher (Jazz and Tap) and also holds her Associate Ballet qualification within the British Association of Teachers of Dancing, and is qualified under Acrobatic Arts. In addition, she is a member of the P.A.A. (Professional Adjudicator’s Alliance). She also has the pleasure of teaching for the York Region District School Board in a specialized Integrated Arts program.
Sonia was a resident teacher and choreographer for several studios over many years, and she continues to challenge and inspire her students. Her dancers are the recipients of various overall top marks and adjudicator choice awards in solo, duet/trio, and group categories at all age levels. Sonia has also been awarded with several Choreography Awards, including Top Choreography of the Competition. Sonia finds the true success of her students in their artistic growth, increasing confidence, and expanding love for dance.
Sonia’s passion for dance is evident in her teaching style and the relationship she creates with her dancers. She continually partakes in dance workshops, conventions, and conferences led by some of the world’s most sought after dance figures in order to stay current with dance trends, techniques, and injury prevention methods, and enjoys learning as much as she does teaching. Sonia is thrilled to see her lifelong dream come true in the opening of Impact Dance Company, and is excited for the growth that will take place in its inaugural year.
